- THE OPERATING SYSTEM
-
- ; The Disk Operating System (DOS) is the 'manager' of your
- computer system. It supervises the equipment and applications
- programs. Additionally it has commands which can help you manage
- your files and disks. DOS for the IBM-PC is called PC-DOS. DOS
- for many compatibles is called MS-DOS because it is published by
- Microsoft Corporation. Most of the commands are the same for
- both PC-DOS and MS-DOS.
-
- ; DOS is a supervisory software program. Applications such as
- spread sheets ... data base managers ... and word processors work
- within the environment established by DOS.
-
- ; For most business applications ... you should use DOS
- Version 2.1 or higher. HELP assumes that your are using at
- least Version 2.0. The older DOS 1.25 does not support many
- of the commands described in HELP.
